Salt Lake City Family Photographer: Bullock Family

Following is a caption I wrote for one of these photos posted on my Instagram account, which sums up my thoughts perfectly:

Though it's often intimidating to photograph another photographer, this family session was an especially meaningful one for me.  This lovely mother was the first photographer I asked to shadow, shortly after moving to Utah.  Having never met me befre, she happily invited me to shadow her and second shoot with her, giving me the practice and experience I needed to improve my skills.  She answered all of my questions and continues to be a great photography resource for me.  Above that, she has become a good friend and is also a great example to me of prioritizing family and faith.  Such an honor to photograph her darling family!

Prior to the shoot, she emailed me and said that her kids are at challenging ages, so she doesn't expect perfection.  "Perfection isn't what my family is right now," she said, and added that some of their favorite photos often end up being the ones where the kids are pulling faces.  Such a refreshing perspective!  While her family did seem pretty perfect to me, however, I do have to agree that some of my favorite photos from this session are of the faces her kids are pulling. And they can pull some great faces!! :D

See what I mean about pulling some great faces?? Ha! I envisioned and tried to direct a loving, hugging/tickling photo for this shot, but what resulted was SO much better than I could have envisioned! What cool kids!
